Almost dinner time … What are you cooking tonight? Do you know it’s mussel time again! Yeeeppp that’s right! Last week I got to attend the opening off the new mussel season … that is the new season of the 'Zeeuwse Mosselen' (the real Dutch Mussels from a province called Zeeland). You know we Dutchies are renowned for our mussels! We produce 60 million kilos each year, of which only 10 million kilos stay in the Netherlands and a gigantic amount namely 40 million kilos are eaten by my fellow Belgians … Yes 40 as in FOURTY kilos haha ohhh how they love their food around here in Belgium!
During the launch we got to attend the fishing of the very first basket of mussels of the season on an original mussel boat, which was sailing on the Oosterschelde … An experience I’ll never forget because be honest … Who gets the chance of joining such an incredible happening!? Moreover I got to taste some mussels raw … D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S and afterwards we were invited to attend an even more mind-blowing dinner, which was catered by none other than Syrco Bakker, the head chef of Michelin Star restaurant Pure C. In short it was a fantastic day and I’m more than keen on making some mussel dishes these coming months! Do you have any favourite recipes and if so what are they?
